Working within the courts: the role of mediation and mediation clinics in civil justice systems 

Saturday 18 March 2023 (online and in person in Glasgow, Scotland, UK) 

The Mediation Clinic Conference 2023 is online and in person on Saturday 18 March 2023.   

This is the third UK Mediation Clinic Conference and the first in-person since the pandemic.  Entitled 鈥淲orking within the courts: the role of mediation and mediation clinics in civil justice systems鈥� it takes place in the 糖心视频鈥檚 state-of-the-art Teaching and Learning Hub. 

The programme is packed with speakers and workshops on all things mediation. Keynote speaker, Tony Allen, is probably the UK鈥檚 best-known mediator specialising in clinical negligence disputes and a member of CEDR for over 25 year. His topic is 鈥淢ediation in the Shadow of the Law: Sunlight or Shadow.鈥�   Sheriff Derek Livingston covers 鈥淢aking the Most of Simple Procedure: A Sheriff鈥檚 Perspective,鈥� and John Sturrock KC will set out the sustainable vision of the World Mediators Alliance on Climate Change鈥檚 Green Pledge.  

Workshops include: 鈥淲hat we Learn from our own Practice鈥�; 鈥淭he Consumer Voice鈥�; 鈥淲orking with Lawyers in Mediation鈥�; and 鈥淗ow to prevent 鈥榓 slip 鈥榯wixt the cup and the lip鈥�! How to encourage parties to mediate after a court referral to the Mediation Clinic.鈥� 

The conference will be of interest to mediators, students of law and dispute/conflict resolution, lawyers, judges and academics. It is followed by a drinks reception sponsored by Anderson Strathern.

If signing up for an in person ticket and your circumstances change, the ticket can be transferred for participation via Zoom.   The ticket cost is the same.   Please contact mediationclinic@strath.ac.uk in advance.
