We are delighted to be delivering a small selection of adult learning classes outwith the university campus.

Learning in Local Communities

The Centre for Lifelong Learning is pleased to offer a growing programme of adult learning classes beyond the University campus, making learning more accessible within local communities.

Our first satellite venue was established in 2023/24 through a partnership with the Thomas Graham Community Library in Strathblane. Building on its success, we expanded in 2024/25 to include Carnegie Library in Ayr and the New Lanark World Heritage Site. In 2026, we are delighted to welcome Springfield Cambridge Community Church in Bishopbriggs as our newest satellite location.

We aim to continue developing opportunities at additional community venues across Scotland, bringing lifelong learning closer to where people live and work.

This striking modern building with advanced net zero carbon energy system is the product of a partnership between Strathblane Community Development Trust (SCDT) and Stirling Council and provides a fantastic space for learning.

Located in Newton on Ayr, the Carnegie Library was built in 1893 by the architects Campbell, Douglas and Morrison. Funded and named after the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, the two-storey red sandstone building houses the town's main library as well as a section specialising in genealogical research.

Springfield Cambridge Church of Scotland (Bishopbriggs) was formed in 1968 through the union of Springfield and Cambridge Street congregations, bringing together traditions dating back to 1833. The church complex, opened in the early 1970s, combines historic and modern spaces and continues a long tradition of worship, community and service.

 

New Lanark was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001 and is an exceptional example of a purpose-built 18th century mill village.
Thanks to an ongoing process of conservation and rehabilitation spanning almost half a century, the appearance of the village today is close to that of the early nineteenth century, when the mill buildings formed one of the largest industrial groups in the world.
