Teaching
- Materials Characterisation
It introduces both the physical principles and practical applications of the more common modern methods of materials characterisation. It covers techniques of both microstructural analysis and micro-chemical, together with various scanning probe microscopy techniques. Emphasis is placed on the information that can be obtained together with the limitations of each technique.聽
- Materials Processing and Manufacturing Technologies
It intends to equip the students with relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills of advanced design tools, materials, manufacturing processes and systems in conjunction with developing efficient operation and effective management skills. Integrating these will enable the students to pursue a career in both general and specialised engineering industries or develop an in-depth knowledge for a career in industry or academia.
- Others modules in line with the University policies and guidelines at postgraduate and undergraduate level on Materials and Manufacturing Engineering.
Research Interests
Aluminium, titanium
Materials modelling
Finite element analysis
Microstructure and texture

- Achieving a light and strong titanium component through a technologically and commercially viable approach is a fundamental challenge. SDE has teamed up with the AFRC on the development of a hybrid superplastic forming (SPF) to create an energy-efficient and environment-friendly technology for manufacturing of single-sheet titanium components, in doing so supporting the drive for a net zero future in the aerospace industry.
This project will conduct life cycle assessment (LCA) on the hybrid SPF with shortened cycle time and less energy consumption, thereby potentially resulting in a net improvement of the environmental profile of the manufactured parts over their life. - 01-Jan-2023 - 28-Jan-2028
