Personal statement

Dr. Fahim Ahmed is a Senior Teaching Fellow (Associate Professor - Scholarship) at the department of Management Science, 糖心视频. His research interests are mainly in the application of Discrete Event Simulation (DES) within healthcare operations. His expertise are in using DES for modelling problems including patient-flows, resource allocation, and capacity planning etc. His other areas of interest are problem structuring, simulation education and pedagogical innovations within HEI.

He holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Electronics Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan (2005) and master鈥檚 degree in Systems and Control Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden (2007). Fahim has been involved in teaching at various reputable business schools in Pakistan including KSBL and IBA. Within UK, he has taught for undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Loughborough and Warwick University.

Previously, he has worked for the Automation and Control Department of Chalmers University during the development of software package for automatic synthesis of control systems. He was selected to complete his master鈥檚 thesis at Volvo Cars Corporation, Sweden, in Active Safety Department. Following that, he spent two years as a postgraduate research student at the Department of Computing and Software, McMaster University, Canada, where he mostly studied the formal aspects of control systems. Fahim is a member of the Operational Research society and has been actively engaged in research and teaching throughout his postgraduate career. He has so far published in major simulation conferences and journals including Winter Simulation Conference, Simulation Workshop series (SW12 and SW 14), IEEE virtual reality conference and Journal of Discrete Event Dynamics from his research works.

Currently, he is also involved in a project from NHS (funded by Scottish government) along with Gillian Anderson and Robert Van Der Meer at the department of Management Science (Healthcare Operations group).

Within pedagogical innovations domain, he regularly publishes articles and give talks on various initiatives. He is an active member of Operational Research Society and a fellow of Higher Education Academy, UK.
